Cost Changes for kynect plans coming January 2026
Because of federal law, some portions of the Advance Premium Tax Credits (APTC) are set to expire at the end of 2025 unless Congress takes action. APTC is used to help lower the monthly cost of your health insurance and will impact some residents. In the Commonwealth, we understand that the cost of coverage is a major concern, and we at kynect want to keep you informed about any changes that could impact your coverage.
What are the changes?
Starting January 2026, you may see an increase in your monthly health insurance costs unless Congress decides to take action this year.
In 2021, the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) began offering enhanced tax credits to lower the costs of health insurance plans. These tax credits will end on
December 31, 2025, unless Congress votes to extend them.
Financial help will still be available for most enrollees, but the amount owed each month will increase; on average this increase could be around $100/month.
Individuals with income above $60,000 per year or couples with income above around $82,000 will no longer be eligible for any financial assistance, but can still purchase and enroll in full-priced plans.
Your 2025 premiums will not be impacted by this change.
